The inaugural Penn Paddle
The inaugural namesake Paddle was held in 2018. Ancillary trips on the Delaware’s tributaries were added in 2019. (edit)
The namesake Penn Paddle is nearly the length of the Delaware River that the Quakers purchased from the Lenape in 1677. The purchase was from Assunpink Creek (Trenton) to Rancocas Creek along the Delaware River. The paddle starts not in Trenton but rather in Bordentown. The first day ends in Burlington. Paddlers may stay overnight in the Center for Conference. The second day starts in Burlington and ends on the Rancocas. At the end of each day, the kayakers take the RiverLINE light rail train back to the start to get their cars.
Lenape Chief Ockanickon, a friend to the Quakers, is buried in the Burlington Meeting House graveyard.
The Burlington Quakers have been connected to the Delaware River for over 300 years. Read about how our logo‘s design is a reflection of the Delaware River.
