Pennsauken Creek By Director On July 29, 2019 · Add Comment **If you know someone who wants to tour both houses but drive rather than kayak between them, they are welcome. Tickets still needed.** Saturday, August 10, 2019. Paddle 4 mi. on Pennsauken Creek from the Griffith Morgan House near the mouth of the Delaware River, upstream with the incoming tide to the Burrough Dover House, and back. Both houses were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. There will be a docent-lead tour of each house and a lunch break at the Burrough Dover House, the second House. This start of the paddle is across the Creek from the Palmyra Cove Nature Park and the end is on the south branch of the Creek. Click here for a map. The Griffith Morgan House, ca. 1693, was the home of one of the earliest colonial settlers in the area – the Welsh and English Quaker Morgan family. It has been restored to the way it would have looked in the 1770’s. Its three stories contain both reproductions and authentic artifacts. The Burrough Dover House was built in 1710 of local Jersey sandstone. It is a colonial Quaker farmhouse and includes a plethora of period nostalgia. It houses the Pennsauken Historical Society. Time, Place Check in is at 8:30 a.m. at the Griffith Morgan House at 243 Griffith Morgan Ln., Pennsauken Township, NJ 08110, which is over the train tracks and at the bend in the road. The tour of the House will start at 8:45 a.m. Please be prompt as this paddle is timed with the tides. We should be off the water by 3:30 p.m. Parking Parking is limited. If you’re coming with a friend and you have a roof rack that can take 2 or more boats, please carpool. Park head-in along the split rail fence and head-in along the grassy median between the asphalt lot and the road. Bathrooms There are bathrooms at both houses.
